El Dorado County teen arrested for murdering relative

What first appeared to be a case of a 16-year-old high school student bringing a loaded firearm onto campus Thursday quickly turned into a murder investigation.

At 8:00 a.m. January 19, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) was notified that a student at Ponderosa High School in Shingle Springs had been detained for bringing a loaded firearm onto campus. Upon deputies arrival at the school, they placed the student under arrest for the possession of the firearm.

"These types of calls are always taken very seriously, and the safety of students and staff is our priority," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

During the investigation a homicide victim was discovered at the juvenile’s residence on Neef Lane in Shingle Springs. The unidentified teen was then booked into juvenile hall for murder.

It is believed the juvenile acted alone and there are no outstanding suspects according to Sgt. Tasha Thompson of EDSO.

The case is still an active investigation and no other details have been released at this time.
