Douglas County Commissioners make it final: Jim Nichols is no longer County Manager

Jim Nichols is officially not a Douglas County employee beginning January 29, 2016. The Board of County Commissioners approved a voluntary separation agreement Thursday between the county and Nichols, their County Manager.

Nichols and the County came to a mutual agreement that he would leave his position. During the on January 21, the Commissioners reiterated the fact that Nichols was not fired, nor did he quit. Nichols will be receiving a check for more than $115,000, the equivalent of six months pay plus sick pay and vacation pay.

A transition plan for an Interim County Manager was discussed by the commission and a motion was passed to Direct Wendy Lang, Human Resources Manager, and Doug Ritchie, Chief Civil Deputy District Attorney to reach out to Larry Werner to negotiate a contract for at least a year, but not to exceed the former County Manager’s contract.

Former Carson City Manager Larry Werner served as Douglas County's last Interim County Manager following the resignation of Steve Mokrohisky in April 2014.

In the meantime, Mimi Moss, Douglas County’s Community Development Director will serve as the acting County Manager effective Monday.

“We are fortunate to have a very strong staff that will persevere while we find the best solution,” said Doug Johnson, Chairman to the Board. “We are confident business will be conducted as usual while we move through this transition.”
