SLEDNET investigates sex trafficking ring in South Lake Tahoe; Three arrested

Complaints of prostitution in South Lake Tahoe led to the arrest of three people on Thursday, January 21, 2016 after an investigation by the South Lake El Dorado Narcotics Enforcement Team (SLEDNET).

Law enforcement has been investigating complaints of prostitution, focused on individuals who conduct human trafficking through advertisements for escort services placed on websites such as www.backpage.com.

On Thursday, the investigation led to the arrest of two women and one man for prostitution, a misdemeanor in California. Reno resident Daniel Gorden, 37, was arrested for pimping, a felony, as well as driving on a suspended/revoked license.

Officers from SLEDNET, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and El Dorado County Sheriff's Office all assisted in the arrests.

"SLEDNET has observed an increase in prostitution, both locally and in the surrounding areas," according to a Sheriff's Office press release. "We are committed to actively enforcing the prostitution laws and holding those participating in this criminal activity accountable. SLEDNET strives for excellence in policing by partnering with the community to enhance the quality of life."
