Council approves new officers for South Lake Tahoe Police Department

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The current staffing level of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) is 30 authorized, sworn officers, and even with this low number they are rarely at full staffing. During the summer of 2018, the department handled an average of 99 calls per day and had 196 incidents where no officer was available to respond immediately, and about 15 times a day they told callers to 911 the officer would be delayed.

After a six-month investigation into drug transactions in the Lake Tahoe Basin, the El Dorado Sheriff's Department Narcotics Task Force executed search warrants at two locations in South Lake Tahoe on August 23, 2017. Large amounts of heroin, methamphetamine and approximately 12 firearms were seized in the search. Lynwood Towle, Shawn German, Melissa Griffis, Paul Ryan, and Krystal Long were all arrested, charged, and eventually pleaded guilty to various charges stemming from those searches.

SLEDNET: South Shore drug task force dissolved

For the past several months there has been no official SLEDNET servicing the South Shore, and today it was announced that the drug task force that has been serving the community since 1988 has dissolved.

Community thanks local law enforcement in celebration at Lakeview Commons

The City of South Lake Tahoe organized a celebration to honor, not only the City's police officers, but all men and women who serve the South Shore. It was held at Lakeview Commons and El Dorado Beach on Thursday.

Members of the Nevada Highway Patrol, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, Search and Rescue, STAR volunteers, Probation Department, SLEDNET, USFS and the FBI all joined in the celebration with the public who came to give their thanks.

Not only was there a free BBQ for the honorees, there was also a free concert on the beach.

Another arrest connected to South Lake Tahoe murder

The arrests continue around the country in response to the January, 2016 murder of 40-year-old Dennis Wright at the Beverly Lodge in South Lake Tahoe. In an apparent drug deal gone bad, Wright was shot to death in the motel's parking lot after allegedly bringing 100 pounds of marijuana to town to sell.

Sunday's home explosion highlights issue of BHO labs in South Lake Tahoe

Sunday night's honey oil lab explosion in a South Lake Tahoe home could have been much, much worse. Neighboring homes could have burned, people could have died.

While the incident on Plum Street is still under investigation by the South Lake El Dorado Narcotics Enforcement Team (SLEDNET), and few details have been released, the subject is one of not only local concern, but one of national concern.

South Lake Tahoe murder suspect arrested in Texas

Domenic Seanlee Randolph, a suspect in the murder of Dennis Wright, Jr. at a South Lake Tahoe motel, was arrested Tuesday in Texas.

The 22-year-old-Randolph is the third suspect arrested for the January 30, 2016 shooting death of Wright, who allegedly brought 100 pounds of marijuana to the Beverly Lodge to sell. He was shot and killed in the motel's parking lot during an apparent robbery attempt.

South Lake Tahoe Police Chief: Updates on crime, cleanup and murder case

Great news! Compared to last year, our violent crime rate is down 41% (from 112 occurrences in 2014 to 66 in 2015). The news is not all good. Our property crime rate is up 6% (from 516 in 2014 to 548 in 2015). This was not unexpected as we reported on a significant upward trend in property crime 6 months ago. Total crime is down 2.2% over last year.

South Lake Tahoe drive-by shooting suspect arrested on multiple felony charges

The hunt is over for the suspect in the October 14 drive-by shooting in South Lake Tahoe that sent a 19-year-old man to the hospital.

Samuel Tovar, 43, was arrested after a high-risk search warrant was served at 816 San Francisco Avenue at 10 p.m. Friday, October 4. Inside they found Tovar, who had been avoiding law enforcement since the shooting.

Two million dollars worth of cannabis confiscated in drug bust

A five month long investigation into the Highlands Health and Wellness marijuana dispensary in Shingle Springs uncovered what authorities say was a multi-million dollar criminal operation.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) centered their investigation on tax evasion, money laundering, conspiracy and the commercial distribution of marijuana for profit.

SLEDNET investigation lands seven in jail on drug charges

Drug task force agents investigating the alleged sales and use of illegal narcotics in the South Lake Tahoe city limits arrested seven adults and confiscated drugs and paraphernalia.

Agents from the South Lake El Dorado Narcotic Enforcement Task Team (SLEDNET) served a search warrant at a home located in the 800 block of Tallac Road on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.

Inside the home, they found 11 adults, seven of them who claimed to reside at the location.

3:35 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Cold Creek Trail - DEPUTIES WERE DISPATCHED TO A NOISE DISTURBANCE AT A VACATION RENTAL. THE RESPONSIBLE RENTER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED ABOUT THE NOISE.

County responds to search warrant served at Tahoe Wellness Cooperative

Search warrants were served on Monday at five locations related to Tahoe Wellness Cooperative (TWC) and its owner Cody Bass. Staff from eight agencies spent hours at the South Lake Tahoe medical marijuana dispensary, pulling out boxes and containers of cannabis and records.

South Lake Tahoe home destroyed in honey oil lab explosion

The Larch Avenue neighborhood's quite Tuesday evening was disrupted by what was described as a violent explosion caused by an illegal honey oil lab.

"My mother's floor rose and fell," said neighbor Daniel Castillo. His mother and sister live in the apartment above where the explosion occurred. Their apartment has a large crack above the front door. "My nephew was standing outside when it happened," Castillo continued. "He said the windows of the apartment came out like a balloon being blown up."

El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy arrested on drug charges in Nevada

Douglas County Sheriff's Officers responding to a reported domestic dispute in Minden, NV ended up arresting El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Zlendick on felony drug charges.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2015, officers responded to the 1300 block of Centerville Road. During the investigation, deputies located narcotics and paraphernalia and arrested Zlendick, a member of the South Tahoe El Dorado Narcotics Enforcement Team (SLEDNET).

CHP busts marijuana grow house in South Lake Tahoe

A California Highway Patrol Sergeant on routine rounds through the Tahoe Keys came across a large and sophisticated indoor marijuana grow.

Father and son arrested in South Lake Tahoe for weapons and drugs

A father and son were arrested in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday evening for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and drugs in the 800 block of Tallac Avenue.

South Lake Tahoe Police Department's SWAT team and SLEDNET detectives served a high-risk warrant on the residence that resulted in the arrest of 55-year old Richard Martin and his 23-year old son Joshua Martin.

Over the last three months, investigators had been examining several different cases that were all affiliated with the Tallac Avenue address where both Martins resided.

Marijuana (cannabis) candies are hitting the market like a storm, and more people are now ending up in the E.R., or even dead, after ingesting them as well as brownies and cookies made from cannabis.

SnowGlobe two days in: 52 arrests and six noise complaints

With crowds approaching 14,000 nightly, one would expect some complaints and arrests. SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe had both during the first two nights.

On Monday, the first night of the techno-music concert there were 17 arrests for miscellaneous alcohol related violations, mainly minors in possession of alcohol or providing alcohol to a minor. There was one arrest for selling drugs and two noise complaints phoned into the South Lake Tahoe Police Department's dispatch.

Marijuana grow houses becoming a problem in South Lake Tahoe

There are an estimated 500 unpermitted, illegal marijuana grow houses on the South Shore according to local law enforcement. In the city limits, South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler estimates there are 300 houses where marijuana is growing illegally with another 200 in the El Dorado County portion of the South Shore according to SLEDNET’s Matt Underhill. Marijuana is a major concern for many in our City. As part of the City Code, our City Council provided for a safer community by allowing marijuana grow operations only after a permit is obtained. The permit process provides for a building official to inspect for things like:

South Lake Tahoe Grow House Burglarized: Suspect Arrested and Officer Injured During Pursuit

South Lake Tahoe Police officers responding to 911 calls about a male breaking into a Bonanza Avenue residence on Tuesday ended up in a pursuit of an armed suspect. He was arrested and one officer was injured.

When officers arrived at the residence they saw the suspected burglar and gave chase to the suspect, who was carrying bags of stolen items from the residence.

The chase took them through yards and over a fence to a meadow near D Street and Highway 50. The suspect then attempted to pull a gun from his waistband but lost control of the 9 mm semiautomatic weapon.

4-5-14 12:40 p.m. update - Camilyn Kay Price-Miller has been found alive and well in another location. She was unaware of the search for her so, once she found out about the situation she walked into a local police station.

Former South Lake Tahoe police officer sentenced to 18 months in prison

U.S. District Judge Kimberly J. Mueller on Wednesday sentenced former South Lake Tahoe police officer John Gerald Poland, 45, to 18 months in prison for one count of obstruction of an official proceeding. He was ordered to self-surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on Nov. 6.

At 3:17 pm Wednesday, South Lake Tahoe police and fire personnel responded to the report of a structure fire at the Forest Manor, a multi unit two story apartment complex at 3754 Forest Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. As firefighters began to extinguish flames from unit 1 downstairs, police officers assisted with the evacuation of the entire complex.
