In partnership with local legal experts, Satin Legal Inc., Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe (BGCLT) will be hosting a Guardian Nomination Workshop for all families in the South Lake Tahoe community on Tuesday, January 31 at 5:00 p.m. This event is open to the public and will help with the process of nomination a guardian for minor children.
Meet at the club's meeting room at 1100 Lyons Avenue in South Lake Tahoe, BGCLT will be open until 6:30 p.m. that evening to allow parents to participate in the workshop.
"In the United States, 70 percent of parents have not named guardians for their minor children," said Heather Satin of Satin Legal, Inc. "We want to change that. We believe it is a basic legal document everyone in our community should have access to. In our Guardian Nomination workshop, we will guide parents through the process of selecting guardians for their children and the common mistakes to avoid. Parents will leave the workshop with completed guardian nominations ensuring their children will be cared for by the people they want, in the way they want, no matter what."
Through this workshop, Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe hopes to give all parents the information necessary to appoint a guardian for their minor children.
“You never want the worst to happen, but as a parent myself, I believe it is important to insure that if we are no longer able to care for our children, then there is someone willing and able to step in and that they are given the resources to do so,” asid Jude Wood, BGCLT Executive Director.
This workshop is free for all parents. If there are any questions about the workshop, please e-mail Kili Ongoy, Development Coordinator, at kongoy@bgclt.org or give her a call at (530) 542-0838.
