Tahoe Chamber turns 60; Special celebration planned

The date was February 17, 1955. The City of South Lake Tahoe had yet to be incorporated (that happened ten years later). Bill Harrah has just purchased George's Getaway Club for $500,000 and Chris Kuraisa purchased Bijou Ski Area for $1,950 and moved lift operations up the hill and renamed it Heavenly Valley. The number one song was "Sincerely" by the McGuire Sisters.

February 17, 1955 was also the day that the original Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce was incorporated.

The Tahoe Chamber is going to celebrate their 60th anniversary with a special BAHM! (Business After Hours Mixer) which is scheduled for February 25th at Tep’s Villa Roma in South Lake Tahoe.

They are invited the public to join them in celebrating and recognizing their major accomplishments and initiatives that helped shape the South Shore into the vibrant community it is today. Hear from the individuals that brought business programs into fruition, worked tirelessly to represent your business interests to local government and fought to transform the South Shore into a year-round recreation destination.

Take a tour through time with Tahoe celebrities as we test your knowledge of major local events and accomplishments in the past 60 years during the Chamber Trivia Challenge. Trivia begins at 5:30 pm and participants have the chance to win prizes if they prove to be the most knowledgeable.

Admission to the BAHM! is free if you attend the Chamber Trivia Challenge. The party officially begins at 6:30 pm with the cutting of the cake. Mingle with friends new and old while reminiscing about Tahoe Chamber and its vast history. The BAHM! will also include live music, drinks and appetizers. Entry is $10 for members and $20 for non-members. Entry includes drink and raffle tickets.

Tahoe Chamber hopes the community will help to celebrate this milestone. After all, it is because of the South Shore community and its members that Tahoe Chamber has achieved so much.
