Viking Corner: This Week at South Tahoe High

South Tahoe Now will now be publishing stories from Ruby Abuhajleh, a student at South Tahoe High. Her column, Viking Corner: This Week at South Tahoe High, will feature stories about students, faculty, and events.

In School
This was a short week with Monday and Tuesday canceled due to snow days, which meant plenty of sleep and skiing for some of the students at South Tahoe High School.

With five feet of snow outside, Lily Perez, a freshmen, spent two nights at her friend’s house, unable to make it home.

Junior Maile McDaniel used all her free time to eat, sleep and hang out with her mom.

Daniel Hibler, a senior, hit the slopes and then went hot tubbing with friends.

More of the same is expected during the upcoming President’s Day weekend.

New Counselor
When STHS lost one of its counselors, Robyn Rasmussen, an English teacher at the school, stepped up and took the job. Rasmussen said she enjoys how the counseling program benefits a wide range of students who need assistance. Here’s an excerpt from an interview with Rasmussen:

How long have you been working at South Tahoe High School? This is my sixth year.

What class did you previously teach? I taught English, all grades.

What made you step into the role as a counselor? Prior to living here, I lived in Manhattan and I got my school counseling degree there.

How is teaching different from counseling? 100 percent different.

What do you want to affect at STHS as a counselor? Help with the organization of the counseling department and advocate for students.
