Meet legendary Snowshoe Thompson during Lake Tahoe snowshoe trek

Event Date:
February 28, 2015 - 10:00am

Enjoy a fun snowshoe trek which can be enjoyed by history buffs and family alike. This special snowshoe event, put on by the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, will take participants over historic parts of the famous trail used between Genoa, Nevada and Hangtown (Placerville), California.

Thomson famously carried the mail for two decades in the mid-1800s. Along the route, trekkers will meet and follow “Snowshoe” himself in the person of costumed Chautauqua performer Steve Hale of Comstock Characters. Bring your imagination and be prepared to be transported back to the winter of 1865.

Due to low snowfall, this snowshoe trek is subject to change into a hike with the use of snow boot chains. For more information on how to sign up and what items are needed, visit their website.

Two to three miles will be covered and the level of difficulty is listed as "moderate." There are just a few spots left for the free event.
