South Lake Tahoe school boundaries discussed at next LTUSD board meeting

During the last meeting of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board of Trustees, discussion about neighborhood schools and theme schools surrounded the proposed STEAM Academy at Al Tahoe Elementary when it reopens. STEAM - science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics - would be the focus of all students at the school, much as the themes surround all other local elementary schools.

At the request of the board, LTUSD Superintendent Dr. Jim Tarwater will present the demographic data from each school in relation to where they reside.

Attached are the maps of each school makeup as well as the school boundaries and the whole district.

While most student attend their "neighborhood school," the one assigned to their residence, many participate in the school-of-choice program at all four themed elementary schools: Bijou Community School (Two-Way Bilingual Immersion - TWBI); Lake Tahoe Environmental Science Magnet School (Environmental Science); Sierra House Elementary (Health, Fitness, Mountain Sports); and Tahoe Valley Elementary (Visual and Performing Arts).

Tarwater will go into more detail at the school board's February 14 meeting at the district office at 1021 Al Tahoe Blvd., in South Lake Tahoe. The meeting begins with closed session at 5:00 p.m. with the regular meeting following at approximately 6:00 p.m. The full agenda and larger neighborhood maps can be seen here: AGENDA.
