Burst of snow to top Lake Tahoe powder ski weekend

A low pressure off the Pacific Northwest coast will move into Lake Tahoe Basin on Saturday morning, dropping temperatures to bring a nice powder dusting for the President's Day holiday ski and snowboard weekend.
Gusty winds to 30 mph are expected for valleys ahead of the front, with a quick burst of snow Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Snow levels will start out around 5,000 feet Saturday morning and will lower to valley floors by Saturday evening. Because the storm system will pass over the I-80 and Highway 50 corridors later in the day, the concern for lower valley snow accumulation is low. About 2 to 3 inches of snow is possible for the Lake Tahoe Basin at lake level with potential for higher snowfall amounts along the Sierra Crest and in Mono County.

In other words, this will make for great ski and snowboard conditions at Kirkwood, Sierra-at-Tahoe, and Heavenly.
