Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe recognizes World Spay Day with free surgeries

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) is joining local veterinarians as well as the Town of Truckee in providing free spay and neuter surgeries during World Spay Day on February 25 and February's Spay/Neuter Awareness Month around Lake Tahoe.

The procedures are available for qualifying cats or dogs in the community to mark World Spay Day on February 25th, 2020. South Lake Tahoe appointments are full that day, but there are still some available on the North Shore.

“Spaying and neutering is the most effective and humane means of decreasing euthanasia of homeless animals in shelters,” said Outreach Programs Manager, Kara Carstensen. “Each year, approximately one million healthy adoptable pets are euthanized in shelters across the US due to lack of homes. The most straightforward way to prevent these deaths is to prevent pet pregnancy in the first place.”

To participate, full-time residents can fill out an application online at HSTT.org. They can also stop by the shelters located at 10961 Stevens Lane in Truckee or the South Lake Tahoe office at 8438 Lake Tahoe Boulevard.

If too late for this special day, fill out the paperwork and get a voucher for other spay and neuter appointments. The first step is to always get the application completed online at https://hstt.org/, or pick one up at their offices.

The HSTT would like to thank Alpine Animal Hospital, Burton Creek Veterinary Clinic, Doctors Office for Pets, Donner Truckee Veterinary Hospital, Sierra Pet Clinic and Town of Truckee for participating in this worthy cause by generously donating free surgeries to the community.
