Series of workshops to help with South Lake Tahoe gardens

Tahoe Friendly Garden Workshops will be hld this spring in South Lake Tahoe through a partnership of the UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe and South Tahoe Public Utility District.

They are hosting three free garden/landscape design workshops at the South Lake Tahoe Library located at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.

Workshop #1 Saturday, April 28 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: Choosing the right plants for your garden. At this workshop you will learn how to select plants that are suitable to our Tahoe environment. They will discuss plant selection based upon your home micro-climate needs, height, shape, blooming schedules, color preference and overall ability to successfully grow in Tahoe. Materials provided to registered participants.

Workshop #2 Saturday May 19 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: How to Design a Tahoe Friendly Garden. At the workshop you will receive an overview of the principles of Tahoe friendly gardening followed by a planning and design presentation including a guided design activity where you will be stepped through the process of what to consider when designing your own garden or landscape. There will be time for questions about your individual landscape projects and lots of useful information. All sketching materials will be provided. Materials provided to registered participants.

Workshop #3 Saturday, June 16 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: Irrigation: the basics for your home landscape. At the workshop you will learn the basics of how to create a water efficient garden. They will discuss how design an irrigation (watering) plan for your home landscape with dates and timing. They will also provide information or management and long-term maintenance. Opportunities for hands-on experience in the library garden. Materials provided to registered participants.

Participants will get to plan or re-imagine their home garden while also getting hands-on experience. As a group you will help re-design and plant one of the memorial gardens at the library.
