Daffodil Hill opens for the season March 17; Coincides with Dandelion Days in Jackson

The annual announcement of spring's arrival in the Sierra Foothills is the blooming of over 300,000 daffodils covering the hills of Volcano, Calif.

The yellow and white covered flower farm, Daffodil Hill, is slated to open on Friday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m. according to an announcement on their Facebook page. Snow has not only affected the upper elevations around Lake Tahoe, but also at the farm which lies at the 3,000 foot level. The daffodils were covered with snow during the Feb. 26 storm and owners had to hold off the opening date announcement.

“Pending any late weather events, we are planning on opening on Friday, March 17, which coincides with Dandelion Days in Jackson,” the farm posted on its Facebook page.

Daffodil Hill opens up to the public when the hill is approximately 25 percent in bloom and close when only 25 percent remain, generally leaving about three weeks of open time.

“Everyone is encouraged to visit us midweek if possible as the traffic on weekends can cause long delays in reaching us,” the owners of the farm posted on Facebook.

There is a Daffodil Hill hotline at 209-296-7048 so visitors can call ahead before heading over to the farm which is located at 18310 Rams Horn Grade, Volcano and almost a two-hour drive from South Lake Tahoe via SR-88.

During the daffodil season, the farm is open daily 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., weather permitting. They will close in wet weather due to slippery trails through the flowers. Admission is free. Dogs and other pets are not permitted.

"Pending any late weather events we are planning on opening on Friday March 17th which coincides with Dandelion Days in Jackson," Daffodil Hill farm owners posted on Facebook. "The parking lot will close at 3:30 pm to allow us to have everyone off the property by our 4:00 p.m. close."
