El Dorado County Sheriff D'Agostini to speak in South Lake Tahoe

Event Date:
March 19, 2019 - 1:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The public is invited to join El Dorado County Sheriff John D'Agostini as he presents "Criminal Activity: Awareness, Reporting & Prevention" on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Library.

He will discuss topics the South Shore community is interested in including homelessness, crime trends and the most common financial scams targeting our communities and ways to avoid falling victim to scammers.

In addition, the Sheriff encourages questions from the audience on any other subjects that are of concern.

Since first being elected in 2010, John said his biggest accomplishment has been the returning the priorities of the agency to community service.

When asked what he'd still like to work on during his term, he said inter-county government relationships still need improvement.

Also, a current concern is the lack of an El Dorado County deputy for the Tahoma area. When the deputy who was on the west shore lived there, it was easy to get coverage, but now EDSO staff a deputy during day and evening shift nearly every day unless the road is closed at Emerald Bay. They have an informal agreement with Placer County to assure emergencies will be handled according to D'Agostini. He said they are working on finding a solution to having a Deputy assigned and living in the Tahoma area but there are challenges, especially with affordable housing.

The public is invited to ask questions. Current hot topics are the Vacation Home Rental and Marijuana ordinances and he is open to budget questions and the building of their new office complex in Placerville as well.

Sheriff D'Agostini is a 4th generation resident of El Dorado County. He grew up fishing, hiking, hunting, 4-wheeling and participating in numerous other adventures. From 1983-1994 he worked in construction and ultimately started and ran his own construction company building homes and providing jobs primarily in El Dorado County.

Throughout his career with the Amador County Sheriff’s Office he served in numerous positions including Patrol Deputy, Cities Deputy, Chief Deputy Coroner, Detective, SWAT Team Member, SWAT Sniper, Crime Specific Officer, Narcotics Investigator, Armorer, Rangemaster and Firearms Instructor. In 2001, John was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Patrol for a short time then transferred to supervise the narcotics unit.

In 2003, John went to work for the Amador County District Attorney’s Office. His grandfather was an El Dorado County Supervisor in the 1960s and his dad a Pioneer Union School District trustee, a position John held as well for two terms.
