Storm moves out of Lake Tahoe; Bigger one on the horizon

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The current Winter Weather Advisory expires at 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, but the next one will be in effect from 5:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15 to 5:00 a.m. Saturday.

From the storm Wednesday, Sierra-at-Tahoe is reporting 9"-13" of new snow in the last 24 hours, 16" at Kirkwood, 12" at Heavenly, 12" at Squaw Valley, 11" at Northstar and " at 10" at Mt. Rose.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno's current weather advisory calls for an additional snow accumulations Wednesday of 2 to 4 inches, with localized amounts up to 8 inches west of Highway 89. Above 7000 feet, additional accumulations 6 to 9 inches, with localized amounts of up to 12 inches.

In the next storm, NWS Reno is forecasting moderate to heavy snow with an additional snow accumulation of 12 to 20 inches at lake level and 2 to 3 feet above 7000 feet.

Tonight - Snow showers likely before 8pm, then snow likely between 8pm and 11pm, then a chance of snow showers after 11pm. Some thunder is also possible. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Thursday - A chance of snow showers before 11am, then snow likely after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 32. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday Night - Snow. Low around 22. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible.

Friday - Snow. High near 31. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 7 to 11 inches possible.

Friday Night - Snow before 8pm, then snow showers, mainly between 8pm and 11pm. Low around 13. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Saturday - A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Saturday Night - A slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 10.

Sunday - A slight chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 34.
