Two STHS football players commit to play at next level

Two more football players out of South Tahoe High School have committed to play for Division 3 schools, both schools that excel in academics as well as athletics.

Caleb Moretti, who moved to STHS from Whittell High School for his senior year, will be going to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana to play linebacker for the "Fightin' Engineers." Moretti, who carries a 4.2 GPA will be majoring in Computer Science.

Jakob Costley is heading to Saint Peter, Minnesota to play for the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties, a college team since 1862. The 5'6 170 pound running back has excelled in both the classroom and on the field during his four years at STHS. He uses the school's Conditioning Room at least daily, and sometimes twice a day, to become physically strong. Jakob started freshman football as a five-foot, 115 pound running back and has moved around defense and offense for the Vikings. He carries a 3.8 GPA and is aiming for a Business Management major.

"I am very excited," said a happy Costley. "Once I started I fell in love with the game." Costley's mom Elena said she was worried about her only child playing football, but changed her mind once she saw" how good he was and how much he loved it."

The players have know each other "since we were born" as their mothers were friends and pregnant at the same time. Moretti played at Whittell but moved to STHS as colleges tend to look at players who come from 11-man teams and not eight-man ones.

"I am super proud of him," said grandpa Doug Masselli, himself a Whittell graduate.

"I'm excited that football is showing the community that doors open," said Coach Franklin. "Great kids use opportunities such as this. If kids love the game we'll find them a home."
