Lake Tahoe, Sierra and El Dorado County roadwork March 22 - 28. 2020

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has scheduled work on El Dorado County and other Sierra roads.

Message from Caltrans: Another wet weather system will impact Northern California travel this coming week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). A new storm system is set to arrive Sunday evening, with snow levels around 6,000 feet. By Tuesday morning, snowfall is anticipated at the 3,000 to 4,500 elevation level with flurries extending into Wednesday. On Interstate 80 over Donner Summit 18 to 24 inches of snow is possible during this period, with 12 to 18 inches estimated for the Echo Summit area of U.S. Highway 50. In the valley area, more rain will bring wet roads. In the Sacramento and Chico regions, 0.5 to 1.0 inch of rain is anticipated Sunday through Wednesday. Motorists are advised to increase buffer zones between vehicles on roadways, reduce speeds and turn on headlights to increase visibility when driving. The weather forecast and its impacts may continue to evolve over the weekend. Caltrans advises travelers to check storm estimates from the National Weather Service before traveling.

In addition, Gov. Gavin Newsom has issued shelter in place orders for the state. Motorists are advised to cease non-essential travel to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
