Series of small weather systems heading to Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A quick moving weather system will bring gusty winds, showers, and mountain snow to the Lake Tahoe region on Friday according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. This will fall on the heels of a smaller system on Thursday.

Snowfall totals of 3 to 8 inches are possible above 7000 feet. Showers will begin by late Friday morning with stronger rain and snow showers between 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Friday. NWS says snow levels will remain near and above 6000 feet with accumulating snow possible above 7000 feet. Most Sierra passes are expected to be wet, with accumulating snow on Carson Pass and the Mt Rose Summit.

A Lake Wind Advisory is in place for Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, and Fallen Leaf Lake on Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Winds will be from south to southwest from 15 to 20 mph, with gusts to 35 mph. Waves on the lake will be 2 to 3 feet.

There is a chance for a couple of small systems heading to the region on Sunday and Tuesday/Wednesday.

Today - Scattered showers after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tonight- Scattered rain showers before 11pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Southwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday - Scattered rain and snow showers before 11am, then rain showers. High near 42. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday Night - Rain and snow showers before 11pm, then a slight chance of snow showers. Low around 25. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Saturday - Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday Night - A 20 percent chance of showers before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29.

Sunday - Partly sunny, with a high near 56.
