September 14, 2023 (All day) The Eldorado Forest Interpretative Association offers free guided Interpretative hikes in and around the Carson Pass area throughout August and September. These vary from 45 minutes like our historical Devil's Ladder hike to our 3 hour water color painting hikes. We offer Junior ranger hikes for our youth (5-15 years old), and we offer a walk among the trees and flower hikes as well. Please see our attached schedule for specific details on dates and descriptions. We recommend that participants call the Carson Pass Information Station at 209-258-8606 to ask more questions and reserve a spot.

July 30, 2023 (All day) The Eldorado National Forest Interpretative Association will offer a free Historical hike on Saturday, July 30th, at 10:00 AM which starts at the Carson Pass Information Station on HWY 88. It will be a 45 minute hike above Red Lake to explore the Devil's Ladder. We recommend that participants wear good shoes and bring water. We also urge visitors to call 209-258-8606 to reserve a spot or arrive slightly early to register.

It will be a 1-2 hour hike along the Pacific Crest Trail. We recommend that participants wear good shoes and bring water. We also urge visitors to call 209-258-8606 to reserve a spot as we are limited to 12 participants on this hike.
Junior Ranger Scavenger Hunt for youth

July 28, 2023 (All day) The Eldorado National Forest Interpretative Association will offer a free Junior Ranger Scavenger hike on Friday, July 28th, at 10:00 AM which starts at the Carson Pass Information Station on HWY 88. It will be a 1 hour scavenger hike along the Pacific Crest Trail. Youth 5-15 are invited to learn more about the Carson Pass and the Mokelumne Wilderness to earn a Junior Ranger Badge. All participants who complete the hike will earn their badge! We recommend that participants wear good shoes and bring water.
Wild Flower Hike at Carson Pass

July 27, 2023 (All day) On Thursday, July 27th, the Eldorado National Forest Interpretative Association (ENFIA) will be offering a free wild flower hike, starting at 10 AM at the Carson Pass Information Station on HWY 88. We recommend that you wear good shoes, bring water and bug spray, and perhaps some snacks. This hike will go to Winnemucca Lake and should be about 2 and a half hours. Participants should call 209-258-8606 to reserve a spot as we are limited to 12 spaces total.
High Wind Warning for Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A High Wind Warning for the Lake Tahoe and Western Nevada area has been extended through 1:00 a.m. Saturday.
Southwest winds are expected to be 25-35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Wind prone areas such as the Sierra foothills and portions of US-395 through the North Valleys and Washoe Valley can see gusts to 75 mph at times. Sierra ridges will gust well over 100 mph.
This warning is for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area and Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Wind Advisory is in effect Friday, November 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for the greater Lake Tahoe area, greater Reno-Carson City-Minden area, Mono County and Western Nevada Basin and range including Pyramid Lake.
Expect southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. Wind prone areas such as; the Sierra foothills and portions of US-395 through the North Valleys, Washoe Valley, and Mono County can see gusts over 60 mph at times with Sierra ridges gusting over 100 mph.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Law enforcement has been busy this morning with vehicles stuck in the snow around Lake Tahoe and on the surrounding mountain passes. Meyers is reporting 12" of snow, South Lake Tahoe 9.5", Genoa 7", Alpine Meadows 7" and the Gardnerville Ranchos up to 14".
This is a good day to stay off the roads. If driving, follow all controls, give yourself distance from the car in front of you, and take your time. The storm is moving out of the area but there will be some lingering snow until around 1:30 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif - The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Wind Advisory for the Lake Tahoe area as well as the Reno, Carson City and Minden area for Sunday, May 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Winds are expected from the southwest at 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
After the winds, the real fun starts with snow and rain in the four-day forecast for South Lake Tahoe.
From NWS Reno:
Today - Partly sunny, with a high near 68. Light southwest wind increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - People in over 200 countries were watching as 132 cyclists climbed more than 14,500 feet over 133.6 miles Monday, a ride that separated the pack as they crossed the finish line in South Lake Tahoe during the 17th annual Amgen Tour of California.
At the end of the day Kasper Asgreen from Denmark, who rides for Belgium's Deceuninck – Quick – Step, is wearing the green leader jersey. Asgreen finished first, 6 hours, 17 minutes and 11 seconds after leaving Rancho Cordova.

Fresh Powder reported at all Resorts… Resorts are digging out and Lifts will be on Delayed openings today… Winter Strom Warning in effect thru 12 pm Sunday… Expect Upper Mtn. Wind Holds and Lift Closures. At this time (8:30 am), I-80, Hwy 88, Hwy 267, Hwy 431 & Emerald Bay Road are CLOSED… All other roadways have chain restrictions posted. Stay out of the Backcountry! Avalanche Danger is High! Be Safe!

Fresh Snow reported at the highest elevations at all resorts… Wet Weather, Strong Winds and Threat of Lightning has most scheduled lifts on Hold… Many Resorts opting to CLOSE Today… Call Ahead! Winter Strom Warning in effect thru 10 pm Thursday with snow level expected to lower today. Backcountry Avalanche Danger is High! Stay Dry and Be Safe!

Good Morning Lake Tahoe Skiers & Riders…
Just returning from my annual road trip… My Road Trip to ReHab… I skied 10 different resorts in Utah & Colorado, while Lake Tahoe Got Hammered with big snows… Great to be back! Fresh Snow reported at all resorts, but Winter Strom Warning in effect thru 10 pm Thursday. Lifts are on Hold at many resorts. Call ahead…
Roads a mess through the Sierra tonight, I80 closed

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Tonight is an excellent time to stay off the roads around Lake Tahoe. As of 7:20 p.m. I80 remains closed from the CA/NV state line and Applegate. US 50 over Echo Summit was closed at 7:00 p.m. for avalanche control and SR 88 is closed from Peddler Vista to Red Lake Creek/the Carson Pass. SR 267 at Northstar is closed as is the Mt. Rose Highway, SR 431.
SR 89 around Emerald Bay has not opened since the storms last week and remains closed.
On the roads that are open, vehicles stuck in snow and accidents have been reported.
