Tahoe Douglas Rotary donates $20,000 to local nonprofits amidst COVID-19 emergency

STATELINE, Nev. - Due to the catastrophic impact of COVID-19, the Rotary Club of Tahoe-Douglas announced its immediate initial commitment and disbursement of $20,000 in cash grants to four South Lake Tahoe Community proactive support agencies - Tahoe Magic, Christmas Cheer, Giving Angels and Bread & Broth.

The club has been serving the South Shore community since 1965 and just completed an online auction in lieu of their normal annual St. Patrick's Day Celebration.

“In consideration of everyone’s safety we elected to cancel this year’s party,” said Cam McKay, the Rotary Club’s current president. “But we did promote our online auction and Hawaii Vacation Raffle which closed April 8. Due to the extreme

urgencies facing our citizens right now, the Club has elected to issue cash grants
to these nonprofits who are providing support to those in need within our
community. Our Club could consider additional grants once we’ve reviewed
our fundraising for this year. We also extend a sincere ‘Thank You’ to everyone
who submitted bids during the online auction, and to the donors who steadfastly
supported our auction despite the cancellation of the party.”

Tahoe-Douglas Rotary has issued cash grants totaling well over $300,000 over
the last five years. In addition to numerous local nonprofits like Boys & Girls
Club, Tahoe Youth & Family Services, Live Violence Free, Tahoe Arts Project and
many local schools, the Club also funds an annual graduating student
scholarships program, and RYLA & REGL Leadership camps for 8th graders and
high school juniors.

The Tahoe-Douglas Rotary Club was founded in 1965 and currently boasts 45
members. It has also been active supporting Rotary International’s Polio
Eradication Program plus educational, medical and clean water source related
projects in Uganda, Mexico, Panama, Thailand, and Laos.
