Spring aging and caregiver series in South Lake Tahoe

The El Dorado County Family Caregiver program is offering a six-week series of classes designed to provide instruction and support to caregivers who are or are planning to care for a family member or friend age 60 or older.

It started on April 15 but participants can still join and attend any or all of the remaining sessions. This series is offered twice a year.

APRIL 22: Hospice, Palliative Care and Grief - Tina will be discussing Hospice and Palliative Care, the differences between them and what services they provide. APRIL 29: Healthy Habits for your Brain and Body - Learn Key lifestyle habits that can help keep your body and brain healthy and potentially reduce risk of cognitive decline. Denise Hund, LSW, Family Care Associate, N. California/N. Nevada Alzheimer’s Association

MAY 6: Caring for the Caregiver - Mindful Self Care - Learn how to “take time” and find respite when it feels there is no time. This presentation will explore various resources for finding solace and respite. Michelle Jamieson, Owner/Mindfulness Teacher of Sierra Mindfulness

MAY 13: Navigating Through the Medi-Cal Long Term Care Matrix - A discussion on the eligibility and application process of Medi-Cal Long Term Care. Andrea Ledford, Intake Eligibility Supervisor for El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency

MAY 20: Common Scams and Preventing Elder Abuse - Address issues regarding scams directed towards seniors and how to prevent your loved one from being abused financially by these scam artists. Michelle Ward, Attorney, El Dorado County Senior Legal Services

All sessions are free and open to the public. Each class is held at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the dates above. The hotel is located at 4130 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

Donations are gratefully accepted. Respite is available to qualified caregivers. Pre-authorization is required for respite services.
