Aging and caregiver educational series in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Family Caregiver Support Program (FCSP) is bringing a free five-week-long Aging and Caregiver educational series to South Lake Tahoe from April 13 - May 11, 2020.

The series will provide instruction and support for people who care for, or plan to care for, a family member or friend aged 60 years or older.

The educational series will be held at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, located at 4130 Lake Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe, on Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the following dates:

• April 13: El Dorado County Information & Assistance - Learn how to navigate through Older Adult Services and access social and health services.

• April 20: Advocacy Planning - Learn how to obtain and use authority to advocate for your loved one. Discussion will include Power of Attorney and Advanced Health Care Directives.

• April 27: It’s Time to Move Your Loved One into a Long-Term Care Facility, Now What? Moving a loved one to a facility is difficult. This training will focus on steps you can take to ease the transition and what you need to know.

• May 4: What Is Palliative Care? - Learn more about Palliative Care, what it is, and who could benefit from this valuable service in our community.

• May 11: Feed Your Brain and Dispel Food Myths - Learn about the importance of hydration and proper nutrition, along with how to make nutritious and quick meals on a budget.

Participants of the educational series may attend one or all of the classes. The classes are free, although voluntary contributions are accepted. Advanced registration is requested, but not required. Please call (530) 621-6192 to register or for questions.
