A man who led Nevada Highway Patrol on a chase that began on U.S. 50 on Spooner Summit ended just before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in a crash in downtown Carson City.
Carson Street is closed between Robinson and Musser streets. No injuries were reported.

A Stateline man is in custody, facing multiple charges, said NHP Trooper Dan Gordon, including suspected DUI impairment.

At least two NHP trooper vehicles were damaged after the chase, which began at 7:12 a.m. near the top of Spooner Summit junction of Highway 50 and State Route 28 in Douglas County. The suspect had driven the vehicle, a Ford Expedition, eastbound Spooner where NHP had put spikes in the road, which blew the man's tires out.

However the suspect kept on driving going in what NHP Trooper Dan Gordon said was "not a high speed chase" past Spooner Junction and then entered onto South Carson Street before crashing the vehicle on Proctor Street.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were notified of the pursuit as the suspect vehicle was moving toward Golf Club Drive on Highway 50 eastbound Spooner.

Once the spikes blew the tires, the pursuit continued but at a much slower clip, with sparks flying from the suspect vehicle's rims.

There were seven law enforcement vehicles to meet the suspect as he moved from Spooner to South Carson Street. The Ford Expedition was traveling at around 15 mph along Carson Street.

After the vehicle was stopped, the suspect was taken out of the vehicle and placed into custody. He was smiling as he was handcuffed and had told officers that he didn't feel he should have had to stop.
