DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection (TDFP), state agencies, local non-profits and businesses are coming together to launch a campaign aimed to help our community stay safer by providing server intervention training and ride alternatives to those who are drinking and need to get home.

Call For A Ride, Stay Alive is a drunk driving awareness campaign that offers server intervention training to employees from casinos and other Stateline area businesses.

Police investigating fatal crash in South Lake Tahoe

10:00PM UPDATE: SLTPD has said the victim in Friday's fatal crash is a 21-year-old man from Santa Rosa, Calif. The name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to the scene of a single-vehicle crash in the 700 block of Emerald Bay Road on Friday afternoon at 3:51 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle resting upside down on the road in front of Burger Lounge.

Victim in fatal head-on collision identified as South Lake Tahoe resident

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - The victim of Tuesday's deadly crash on US Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove has been identified as a South Lake Tahoe resident.

At 6:25 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a head-on collision at Douglas County miler marker 3.

The NHP preliminary investigation shows a black 2011 Dodge Ram pickup was traveling eastbound on the highway approaching a right curve in the roadway. At that same time, a gray 2003 Honda Element was approaching the same curve as the driver headed westbound.

Man airlifted to Reno after serious motorcycle crash on SR89

A Wellington, Nevada man was flown by a Careflight medical helicopter to Reno after going over a cliff with his motorcycle Saturday night.

At 5:00 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) says Troy Costa, Sr. was riding his Harley southbound on SR89 about a mile north of the SR4 junction when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. Their report says Costa was ejected from the motorcycle as it went over a cliff adjacent to the East Fork of the Carson River.

He sustained severe injuries and transported by air to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Two transported to hospital after trash truck overturns in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two male employees of South Tahoe Refuse (STR) were transported to Barton Hospital Thursday after the trash truck they were in turned over.

At 10:36 a.m. October 15, the trash truck was heading south on Pioneer Trail when its driver attempted to make a right-hand turn onto Elks Club Drive. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the driver was using excessive speed when he tried to make the tight turn, and the fully loaded truck turned over onto its left side on Elks Club.

Man arrested after allegedly stealing vehicle in South Lake Tahoe, leading chase into Nevada

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A car being warmed up in the driveway of a Tahoe Sierra home in South Lake Tahoe was stolen at approximately 6:40 a.m. Monday, September 21, and the alleged thief led law enforcement on a chase that ended near Marla Bay in Nevada.

As soon as the call of the stolen car was dispatched, Officer Jason Nixon of the South Lake Tahoe Department (SLTPD) spotted the vehicle, a Lincoln Navigator, and started pursuit. He was joined by other officers and the chase went into Nevada and Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) joined in near Kahle Drive.

5:30 p.m. UPDATE: Traffic is moving again and the crash has been cleared up. No other information is available at this time.

Plea expected in deadly South Lake Tahoe tanker crash

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It has been 11 months since the deadly tanker crash on US50 and Elks Club Road claimed the life of a 36-year-old North Highlands man. The thick black smoke from the wreckage could be seen for miles as emergency response crews worked on extinguishing the blaze.

Fatal crash south of Lake Tahoe near Blue Lakes claims life of 74-year-old Dayton man

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) in South Lake Tahoe is reporting a fatal collision Wednesday on Blue Lakes Road off of SR88 south of Lake Tahoe.

In the early morning hours of August 5, 74-year-old Michael Glenn Pace of Dayton, Nevada was traveling southbound on Blue Lakes Road, north of Sunset Lake Road, when he failed to negotiate a left curve in the road. CHP says Pace went onto the gravel shoulder and attempted to steer back onto the roadway but his vehicle overturned, tumbled 150 feet down a steep embankment and struck a tree.

Oregon man dies in motorcycle crash on Kingsbury Grade

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A Springfield, Oregon man died on Saturday after a crash on Kingsbury Grade/SR207.

At approximately 12:47 p.m. August 1, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to a serious injury crash at Douglas County Mile Marker 10.

The NHP preliminary investigation shows that 62-year-old Kurt Kelso was traveling north on Kingsbury Grade on his 2003 Harley Davidson. As Kelso was negotiating a left curve his motorcycle left the roadway and struck a dirt mound. He was ejected and transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

One dies in single-engine plane crash near South Lake Tahoe

UPDATE 6:23 p.m.: One person died in Tuesday's crash of a single-engine plane in Meyers. At 3:23 p.m., El Dorado County Sheriff Deputies responded to the report of the crash near the Forest Service homes on Rainbow Road.

When Deputies arrived, they found a single-engine plane "crumpled and upside down" in a wooded area. There were two people on board the plane. One person was deceased and the other was taken to Renown Hospital in Reno via helicopter. Their condition is unknown at this time.

71-year-old Jackson man identified as victim in Kingsbury Grade motorcycle crash

STATELINE, Nev. - The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has released more information on Thursday's fatal motorcycle crash on Kingsbury Grade/SR-207.

At approximately 2:23 p.m. on June 11, NHP troopers were dispatched to a fatal collision involving three motorcycles at the curve between Palisades Drive and Katherine Court in Stateline, Nevada.

One motorcyclist dies in Kingsbury Grade crash at Lake Tahoe

STATELINE, Nev. - Three motorcycles were involved in a crash on SR207 Thursday afternoon, leaving one person deceased and two sent to the hospital.

At approximately 2:19 p.m. on June 11, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) were called to the scene on Kingsbury Grade near Palisades Drive. The investigation is still underway but what is known at this time is one motorcyclist was driving eastbound and two motorcyclists were headed westbound when they collided, according to NHP Trooper Hannah DeGoey.

Three-car collision in South Lake Tahoe sends one to hospital and one to jail

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a three-car collision in South Lake Tahoe Monday evening.

At approximately 7:09 p.m. June 8, South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) responded to the call of a crash on Lake Tahoe Boulevard near Fremont Avenue.

One arrested on multiple charges after head-on collision in Lake Tahoe

6/9/20 update: A 23-year-old man from Garden Valley, California has been arrested on multiple charges after being involved in a two-car Collison on US50 near Skyland at Lake Tahoe on June 8.

At approximately 6:05 p.m, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to a serious injury crash involving a Honda Civic and Toyota Tacoma.

The crash closed both the eastbound and westbound travel lanes of the highway for several hours as emergency crews aided the victims, transported the two drivers to the hospital via helicopter, and cleared the scene.

Vehicle involved in Incline Village hit and run crash sought

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a vehicle believed to have been involved in a hit and run crash in Incline Village on Tuesday, May 12.

The crash occurred in the area of College Drive and Crest Lane at approximately 6:00 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Deputies are looking for a silver 2001-2004 Toyota Tacoma, similar to the one pictured above. The suspect vehicle should have damage to the left front fender and front bumper.

Man transported via CalStar after Saturday morning crash in South Lake Tahoe

Douglas County crash claims life of 70-year-old woman

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has released the name of the 70-year-old woman killed in a Feb. 28 crash on US-395 south of Johnson Lane in Minden.

At 9:02 p.m., NHP troopers responded to the serious injury crash involving three people in two vehicles.

Two seriously injured in SR-88 collision near Red Lake

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two people in their 80s had to be airlifted to Renown Hospital in Reno after the vehicle they were hit was struck by a tractor-trailer on February 4, 2020.

At 2:15 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the area of the collision which was on SR-88 east of Red Lake Road. From their preliminary investigation, a tractor-trailer driven by 40-year-old Juan C. Hernandez of Vacaville, California was driving eastbound at the same time a Honda CRV with driver George Schultz, 81, and his passenger Patricia Schultz, 80, were headed west.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - "You're the Black Mamba, but I'm the White Mamba," said a trash-talking 13-year-old in 2011 at the Kobe Bryant Basketball Academy in Santa Barbara.

"I would constantly approach Kobe at any opportunity, even when I wasn't supposed to, pestering him to play me one-on-one," says a now 21-year-old Palmer Chaplin. "I berated him with trash talk about how I could beat him and he entertained it, saying stuff like 'that's not a game, that's a destruction."

Eastbound I-80 closed after multiple big rigs crash near Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Eastbound Interstate 80 is currently closed after there were multiple collisions involving semi-trucks near Nyack, Calif. Given the number of trucks involved, it could be several hours until the road reopens to eastbound traffic. Alternate routes are advised for the time being though caution is urged on the major bypass, SR20 due to scheduled tree work and increase in traffic.

According to the CalTrans maintenance superintendent, a full closure of eastbound I-80 is expected for at least 4-6 hours. or between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

New Year's Eve crash in Genoa turns into fatal investigation

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The 82-year-old man involved in a single-car collision in Genoa on December 31 has died from the injuries he sustained.

On New Year's Eve at approximately 6:49 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to a call of a serious injury crash at the intersection of Mill Street and SR-205 in Genoa. The driver was transported to a Reno hospital with life-threatening injuries.

DUI suspect arrested after rollover crash on US50 at Echo Summit; Westbound traffic delayed an hour

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has arrested the driver of the Ford truck involved in the single-vehicle rolloever just west of Lake Tahoe Sunday morning. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in the 11:16 a.m. crash.

The highway was backed up for over an hour as the truck and driver were removed from the scene.

12:37 p.m. update: US50 over Echo Summit is now open with no controls. The vehicle has been removed.

Early morning crash backs up traffic near Zephyr Cove

A single-vehicle crash Tuesday morning backed up traffic on US50 at Zephyr Cove for almost an hour.

At 8:30 a.m., emergency crews responded to the rollover which took place in the westbound lanes of the highway.

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) says ice is to blame for the crash. Lanes were closed until the crash scene could be cleared.

Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) was able to evaluate the occupants at the scene.

NHP and TDFPD both say the occupants were not transported.

Car runs into Trimmer Outpost in Genoa, driver has life-threatening injuries

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - At 6:45 p.m. on New Year's Eve, the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to a single-vehicle crash in Genoa.

The driver of a silver SUV struck the front of Trimmer Outpost, a store in the historic town. Authorities say the driver did not follow the curve of the road and instead ended up driving through the store's parking lot, hitting the building.

NHP says the driver was transported to a Reno hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Trimmer Outpost was scheduled to be closing for store sales in January.

No other information is available at this time.

Man seriously injured after Christmas Day crash in Douglas County

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A single-vehicle crash occurred early Christmas morning on US395 and Buckeye Road in Minden, Nev.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., a suspected impaired driver ran through several signs, a light pole and ended by hitting a brick wall near the Bently Heritage Estate Distillery.

The unidentified driver was hospitalized and was in critical condition at last report, according to Nevada Highway Patrol Officer Hannah DeGoey.

The crash is still under investigation at this time.

Charges to be filed against driver involved in deadly tanker crash in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The driver of a Prius involved in a deadly tanker crash on US50 near South Lake Tahoe will be charged with a single count of misdemeanor manslaughter.

US50 near Sierra-at-Tahoe reopens after head-on collision

7:15 p.m. UPDATE: All lanes have been reopened on US50 west of Sierra-at-Tahoe after a two-car head-on collision between a van and a SUV just after 5:00 p.m. Sunday. All injured parties have been transferred to Barton and the vehicles have been towed away.

At this time the extent of injuries is unknown but unconfirmed reports say all are minor at this time.

All back open after overturned truck closes parts of road in South Lake Tahoe

4:00 p.m. UPDATE: Most likley it will be the rate of speed a truck driver was traveling at that caused a semi-truck carrying woodchips to overturn in South Lake Tahoe Monday morning.

The 51-year-old woman from Placerville who was at the wheel was traveling from the south on Emerald Bay Road/US50 when she attempted a right-hand turn onto Lake Tahoe Blvd./US50. The truck tipped over and the cab and woodchips slide over into the westbound lanes of Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Man arrested for Felony Hit-and-Run in South Lake Tahoe fatal collision

10:00 a.m. Monday update: The man arrested in connection with the felony hit-and-run is a full-time student at Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) and a member of their men's soccer team.

Grinding and paving project Thursday at Highway 50 bridge

MEYERS, Calif. — Grinding and paving work for emergency repairs to a section of U.S. Highway 50 just east of Meyers is scheduled for all day on Thursday.

The deck and asphalt approach on each end of the Sawmill Bridge over the Upper Truckee River need to be resurfaced and the guardrail on the 134.5-foot structure has to be replaced after crash between a tanker truck and Prius led to an explosion and fire on September 7.

Motorcyclist dies in crash on US50 east of Lake Tahoe

CARSON CITY, Nev. - There was a fatal crash involving a single motorcycle on US50/ Spooner Summit Saturday night, one mile above the junction with US395 near the Carson City-Douglas County line.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), the passenger on the motorcycle died in the crash which occurred just before 8:00 p.m. September 7.

Care Flight landed on the highway to transport the driver who had critical injuries in the crash.

As of 10:30 p.m. Saturday, one eastbound lane was still closed on US50 for an investigation.

Fatal crash involving gas tanker in South Lake Tahoe

Update 10:00 p.m. - One person has died after the tanker truck they were driving on Highway 50 just west of South Lake Tahoe collided with the Upper Truckee River bridge near Elks Club Road.

The preliminary investigation shows that at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday, September 7 the driver of a Toyota Prius was making a right turn from Elks Club Road onto Highway 50 when he pulled out in front of the eastbound truck. According to CHP South Lake Tahoe Commander Terry Lowther, the driver of the Pruis violated the truck driver's right-of-way.

One arrested after hitting pole in Meyers: Knocks out power, phone and cable services

MEYERS, Calif. - Many people were without power for several hours overnight Sunday after a car driven by a suspected drunk driver collided with a power pole on North Upper Truckee Road just before midnight.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 24-year-old woman from Yerington, Nevada was heading south on the road about 200 feet north of its intersection with US50 when she ran into a power pole.

Thousands of Burners head through Reno-Tahoe International Airport on way to Black Rock Desert

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) was a very busy place Monday as most of the 20,000 people expected to fly in for Burning Man 2019 passed through on their way to the Black Rock Desert.

Attendees to the annual event (known as Burners) were greeted at the airport RNO's therapy dogs, Paws for Passengers, who wore costumes for the day to bring smiles to arriving Burners.

Welcome activities are taking place all week at Air Playa Info, a welcome area staffed by local volunteers dedicated to assisting Burners.

South Lake Tahoe single-car crash takes out tree, sends one to Barton

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One man was transported to Barton Hospital after a single-car crash at the "Y" Friday evening.

The driver said he was experiencing a panic attack as he was stopped at the intersection of Highway 50 and Emerald Bay Road, according to South Lake Tahoe Police Sgt. Jason Cheney. The driver was heading west on the highway and waiting to turn south onto Emerald Bay Road.

Driver escapes after high speed pursuit from South Lake Tahoe to Zephyr Cove

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A driver and his passenger escaped after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase from the Heavenly Village area of South Lake Tahoe to Zephyr Cove, Nevada. They crashed their car into a guard rail and ran away.

On Sunday, August 4 an officer from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) attempted to make a traffic stop at 2:06 a.m. when the driver failed to yield and took off. A pursuit ensued into Douglas County, at times reaching high rates of speed. Six minutes later the suspect's car crashed into a guard rail on Highway 50 in Zephyr Cove.

STATELINE, Nev. - A Dayton, Nevada man has been identified as the victim in Sunday's fatal motorcycle crash on Kingsbury Grade.

Just before 8:00 p.m. on July 28 Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash on SR-207/Kingsbury Grade one mile up from Lake Tahoe at Douglas County Mile Marker 1.

Driver of motorcycle on Kingsbury Grade dies in crash, passenger sent to hospital

UPDATE 8/3/19 3:30 p.m.: A Fallon, Nevada man has been identified as the victim in Sunday's fatal motorcycle crash on Kingsbury Grade.

Just before 8:00 p.m. on July 28 Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash on SR-207/Kingsbury Grade one mile up from Lake Tahoe at Douglas County Mile Marker 1.

Preliminary investigation shows that a black 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound on SR-207. For an unknown reason, the motorcycle overturned and both the driver and passenger were ejected.

Highway 50 near Kybruz reduced to one lane after crash, expect delays

2:20 p.m. update - Highway 50 is open with no controls at Kyburz.

KYBURZ, Calif. - If you are traveling over Echo Summit today you may want to take a different route, or plan on extra time on the road.

The California Highway Patrol has responded to a major crash between two SUVs in the Whitehall Canyon area near Kyburz. Initial reports show a car turning onto the highway was struck at about 11:30 a.m. and the aftermath is causing a big delay with eastbound traffic starting at Bridle Veil Falls.

At least one person has been transported.

Car goes off the highway during heavy rainstorm south of Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A rollover crash during a rainstorm on SR88 Thursday afternoon sent all seven occupants to the hospital.

At 4:50 p.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to a call of a crash one mile west of Pickett's Junction and SR89.

The driver of an eastbound 2013 Ford Explorer was caught in a downpour and the vehicle hydroplaned on the highway causing it to go down an embankment, overturning on the way. It landed on all four wheels.
