Bijou Bike Park Association receives proclamation at City Council meeting

The Bijou Bike Park Association was recognized during Tuesday's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting with a proclamation honoring their successful creation of the bike park on Al Tahoe Blvd.

"I didn't know this was going to be so successful so quickly," said Amy Fish, an active member of the association. "Our kids can now ride side by side with world class GoPro cyclists at the park."

Amy accepted the award for her husband Ben who was out of town on business. He is the President of both Bijou Bike Park and Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Associations

"The Fish family is one of the best assets of this community," said City Councilmember Austin Sass. "I wish we had another 5,000 people like you here."

"This has been a true team effort," said Amy Fish. "We created this model to drive future community projects forward."

The City's Parks and Recreation Commission presented the proclamation for the group's work in helping to plan and build the popular bike park that is already being highlighted in biking magazines and articles across the country.

“The City of South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Commission would like to publicly recognize the Bijou Bike Park Association for its efforts to construct a world class recreational facility in the heart of our community,” said Scott Valentine, commissioner.

Valentine continued with “This is a successful model that demonstrates how community input and public/private partnerships can facilitate recreational improvements. The Commission commends the Bijou Bike Park Association, which proposed an idea, raised funds, and helped to create, construct, and maintain a +facility that enhances recreational amenities and the quality of life for the residents of South Lake Tahoe and its visitors.”

The Bijou Bike Park is identified in the Parks, Trails and Recreation Master Plan as a low cost, high value amenity and is free to the public.
