Free No-Drama Discipline workshop at LTCC

Event Date:
May 14, 2019 - 5:30pm

Attend a free parenting two-night workshop, No Drama Discipline, at Lake Tahoe Community College on May 14 and 21, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

No Drama Discipline unlocks the secrets of discipline; what works and what does not, and why - and what to do when you are pulling your hair out. We will discuss the insights and techniques to make you a better parent as written by Dan Siegel and Tina Bryson in the book, No-Drama Discipline.

- Upstairs versus downstairs brains: When parents react to misbehavior with immediate consequences and this-then-that sequences, it over-simplifies everything. The authors refer to this as engaging the kid’s instinctive “downstairs brain,” whereas reacting by asking questions engages the rational “upstairs brain.” The metaphor reduces the most complex part of your kid’s biology to a dollhouse, but it is a whole lot easier to understand than the actual neuroscience.

- Addressing Behavior, R-E-D-I-R-E-C-T: Tips for navigating your children through the tantrum to achieve insight, empathy, and repair.

- Magic Wands, Being Human, Reconnecting and Change: the Four messages on Hope.

The workshops are facilitated by Sarah Tran, M.S. and provided by the Foster & Kinship Care Education Program. The community is invited to attend.

The workshops will be in the Creekside Room at Lake Tahoe Community College, One College Drive. RSVP for childcare or questions: Kay Huxtable kehuxtable@ltcc.edu
