South Lake Tahoe students show appreciation for meal delivery

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Students in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) show their appreciation daily as the bus drivers deliver daily meals to bus stops and schools around South Lake Tahoe.

From March 18 to May 7, the LTUSD drivers have delivered 26,066 meals at their stops, Monday through Friday. The meals are prepared early each day by staff and sent out on buses to their appointed routes.

Some students recently sent the drivers some "thank you" cards to show their appreciation (see photos above).

At this time the food program is scheduled to run through the end of what would have been the normal academic year, but a decision has not been made at this time. District officials expect to decide in the next two weeks.

LTUSD words through the Seamless Summer Feed Program to help with the meal expenses. They are reimbursed for each breakfast and lunch provided though expenses, however, depending on the labor expended and items purchased the reimbursement does not necessarily cover the entire cost of this effort according to Andrea Salazar, the LTUSD chief business and operations officer.

Words in the second letter above: Dear bus driver, Thank you for the food! You should even help poor people since the food is so good! You deserve a medal or a trophy! You should be in history!
