South Lake Tahoe Certified Farmers' Market begins June 5

This year's crop of organic produce will find its way to South Lake Tahoe beginning June 5 and extend throughout summer at the American Legion Hall parking lot and Fridays starting June 22 on Ski Run Boulevard.
The Certified Farmers' Market will run from 8 a.m to 1 p.m. each Tuesday through Oct. 9 at the American Legion Hall parking lot. Produce is picked within hours of market days and visitor can talk directly to the farmer and learn about new varieties of fruits and vegetables and farming practices.

The market will feature dozens of varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh honey and flowers, nursery stock, and other California agricultural products like meats and fish. Fruits sold at the market are: apples, apricots, blackberries, cherries, figs, grapes, grapefruits, melons, nectarines, oranges, peaches, pears, persimmons, plums, prunes, raspberries, rhubarb.

Vegetables and herbs available include: Asian vegetables, asparagus, beans, cabbage, carrots, chard, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, kale, lettuces, okra, onions, peas, peppers, potatoes, pumpkins, radishes, spinach, summer squash, tomatoes, zucchini and more. Favorite herbs include: basil, dill, lavender, mint, parsley, rosemary, thyme and more. Fresh cut flowers are available and growers frequently supply flowers for special the market in small and gallon pots and ornamental containers.

The opening date is pending on Kahle Park Farmers' Market, which has been held on Fridays through summer in Stateline.
Meanwhile, Market on the Run Farmers' Market on Ski Run Boulevard begins June 22 and runs Fridays from 3-8 p.m. The boulevard will be closed between Birch and Larch streets. Live music, a beer garden in front of the Blue Angel cafe, organic local produce, unique food vendors, locally made bread and other local products and goods. Also face painting and other things for kids.
