SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two new thought-provoking art exhibits at Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) can be enjoyed in a safe and virtual manner.
In LTCC's Haldan Gallery is Loren Madsen's "Worry Beads," a large sculpture of wood-carved beads strung together like a chain, with each bead representing one year between 1945 to 2017. Each individual bead's size tells a story about how many terrorist-caused deaths occurred in that year globally. It makes for a sublime piece of woodworking skill and a powerful political statement.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Live Violence Free is holding "Light the Night Purple" on October 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. as part of their month-long recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
This is a free Facebook Live event that will include a paint and sip session with a live painting instructor, domestic violence themed jeopardy, and a survivor guest speaker who will lead an empowering conversation. The first 25 participants that sign up will be provided with a free bag of painting supplies and a non-alcoholic beverage for the paint and sip portion of the event.
Mural in Tahoe East Shore Trail tunnel unveiled

The mural, painted by local husband and wife art and design duo, Tyler Rivenbark and Frida Ticehurst-Rivenbark, was completed with help from students at Lake Tahoe School in Incline Village.
Tahoe East Shore Trail to close temporarily for tunnel art project

The Tahoe Fund, Tahoe Public Art and Nevada State Parks collaborated to commission the mural to augment the natural beauty of the Tahoe East Shore Trail and transform a utilitarian tunnel into a community-involved, relevant art experience.

This will be done virtually so open to anyone who signs up.
This will be a series of three 90-minute classes held once a week. Participants can either sign up for one class or the series of three classes. Each class costs $20 and the series of three classes is $50.
All proceeds will support the Sierra Nevada Alliance’s work.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. The annual Made in Tahoe festival held during the Memorial Day Weekend at Squaw Valley has moved their event to October, but, to highlight local craftspeople who would normally be there, a virtual weekend event has been created.

This event was a collaboration made possible by the generosity and giving heart of the ‘Angel of Tahoe,’ Mrs. Lisa Maloff. For the third year in a row, Mrs. Maloff made a sizeable donation to Tahoe Youth & Family Services with the request for the agency to help make the holiday season special for local children.

They were both planning on opening this Friday, Nov. 22. At this time, Heavenly will target Wednesday, Nov. 27 and Northstar will target Friday, Nov. 29 to open for skiing and snowboarding. Kirkwood will announce an opening date in the coming days.

South Lake Tahoe Highway 50 roadwork update

"It is so good to be back!" said Principal Karin Holmes. "The kids are doing great and the staff is so happy to be back in their classrooms. We are getting organized and enjoying being home. Our staff and students did not miss a beat in the transition back to Sierra House."

Celebrate the annual fall migration of the Kokanee salmon at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center on SR-89.
The Fall Fish Festival focuses on a variety of fish species that live in Lake Tahoe and its rivers. In addition to the Kokanee, these species include the federally threatened Lahontan cutthroat trout and little-known smaller fish, such as speckled dace.

Repairs completed include carpet replacement, minor mold remediation and painting.
The Employment Resource Center provides free job assistance services to El Dorado County residents who are looking for jobs or want to improve their job readiness skills. There is no income requirement to use the Center.

We welcome you to join us as we feature the incredible talent of award winning artists Nanette Oleson and Benjamin Justin at the gallery on Saturday, June 15th 4-7:30. Dive into the colorful palette of Oleson's oil paintings or be filled with wonder as you take in the grandeur of Justin's fine art landscape photographs. Tahoe Beach Bash to raise funds for Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A family friendly event has been planned by the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless at their Tahoe Beach Bash on Saturday, July 20 from noon - 4:00 p.m.
This year’s event is being held at The Beach Retreat and Lodge located at 3411 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe. The Beach Bash includes live music, beachside barbecue, silent auction, games, a bounce house, face painting, beautiful lake views, beer and wine tasting, Homebrew for the Homeless’s home-brewed beer contest, and more.
All proceeds go to Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless.
El Dorado County employment office in South Lake Tahoe closes for a few weeks
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/10/2019 - 10:08pmThe El Dorado County Employment Resource Center located in South Lake Tahoe will be closed for several weeks for needed building repairs which include mold remediation, painting and new carpeting. Originally the office, located in Suite 100 of the El Dorado Center at 3368 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, was going to be temporarily closed for just this week.
Other offices in the same building, including County Income Support and Child Welfare Services, will remain open and provide services to the public.
A Brush With Kindness seeks homeowners in South Lake Tahoe

Volunteer teams work to improve the condition of homes at minimum or no cost to homeowners who are unable to complete the work on their own.

The annual Day of the Young Child will be held at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This free event is for all ages. There will be activities, games, booths opened by local youth-oriented groups and vendors, and information about jobs in the early childhood education field. A memorable family day with free early childhood activities: painting, beading, clay, bubbles, a puppet show at noon and more.
