Lake Wind Advisory in effect for Lake Tahoe Saturday followed by chance of snow

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A Lake Wind Advisory for Lake Tahoe remains in effect from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6. Also under the warnings are Donner, Fallen Leaf, Prosser, and Boca.

The National Weather Service is forecasting southwest winds 20-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Waves on Lake Tahoe could be 2-4 feet. Small boats, kayaks and paddleboards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

And if the wind wasn't enough, there is a chance of snow for Lake Tahoe Saturday night.

The weekend forecast:

Saturday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 58. Breezy, with a southwest wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

Saturday Night - A chance of rain showers before 11 pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers between 11 pm and 2 am, then a slight chance of snow showers after 2 am. Snow level 7800 feet lowering to 6300 feet after midnight (the lake is at 6,224 feet). Partly cloudy, with a low around 34. Breezy, with a southwest wind 20 to 25 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. The chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half-inch possible.

Sunday - A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly after 11 am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 50. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half-inch possible.

Sunday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 29. West wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light northwest in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
