Motorcyclist killed in crash on US 50 in Zephyr Cove Saturday

There was a deadly accident involving a car and a motorcycle on Highway 50 in Zephyr Cove Saturday evening around 8:00 p.m.

A 2015 Nissan Versa, driven by 31-year-old Alma Jaramillo-Garcia of Moxee, WA was driving eastbound on Highway 50 near N. Martin Drive. For unknown reasons she drifted into the westbound lane into the path of a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle ridden by 53-year-old Amber Hallmark of Antioch, CA.

The collision ejected Ms. Hallmark from her motorcycle. Miss Hallmark and her motorcycle traveled approximately 75 feet before coming to rest on the north paved shoulder. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Miss Hallmark was wearing a safety helmet at the time of the collision.

Miss Jaramillo-Garcia stopped her vehicle after the collision and complied with law enforcement officials on scene. Miss Jaramillo-Garcia was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Inattention and/or impairment is being investigated as a contributing factor is this fatal crash.

The westbound lanes were shut down with traffic control directed by NDOT for several hours while the crash scene was diagrammed and investigated.

This area of US 50 is two lanes in each direction with a no passing double yellow line separating. The speed limit is 45 mph with no roadway lighting in this area.

Trooper Chris Kelly of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team is investigating this incident.
