COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County public health officials are reporting another four confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, all from the Lake Tahoe region.

All of the new cases are in the age group of 18-49 and are three males and one female. This brings the current number of confirmed cases to 125. With one new recovery, the active number of cases is 25.

There are no current hospitalizations but two suspected cases of COVID-19 are in the hospital.

229 more people have been tested, bringing that total to 8,669.

There have been 62 cases in the Lake Tahoe area (including South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Strawberry, and Tahoma).

Quad-Counties - Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Lyon

Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is reporting five new positive cases and two additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 271, with 197 recoveries and seven deaths, 67 cases remain active.

The new cases are:
• A female Douglas County resident in her 30’s with no connection to a previously reported case.
• A male Lyon County resident in his 40’s with a connection a previously reported case.
• A female Carson City resident in her 20’s with a connection to a previously reported case.
• A female Lyon County resident in her 50’s with no connection to a previously reported case.
• A male Carson City resident in her 30’s with no connection to a previously reported case.

Carson City Health and Human Services is working to identify close risk contacts to prevent further spread of the disease. Due to medical privacy requirements and to protect their identity, no further information about the cases will be released

Washoe County

The Regional Information Center is reporting an additional COVID-19-related death in Washoe County: A male in his 60s with underlying health conditions. There have been 72 COVID-19-related deaths in Washoe County.

Additionally, there are 83 new cases of COVID-19 in Washoe County, the largest single-day increase in cases.

The Nevada State Public Health Laboratory (NSPHL) reported a delay in results due to an equipment issue, which is not uncommon given the substantial volume of tests conducted. The issue was fixed and two days of results came in at once. More information can be found on the NSPHL website here.

The total active cases climbed to 670, which breaks the highest mark by 28 cases (642, set June 13). This increase is not associated with any delay in reporting. This is a sign of increased community transmission.

“It’s imperative that residents understand COVID-19 is not slowing down in our community,” said Kevin Dick, District Health Officer in Washoe County. “The health and wellbeing of our vulnerable populations is at stake. Studies are coming out showing the efficacy of wearing face coverings and social distancing of six feet to reduce community transmission. Please look out for fellow Nevadans by practicing these safety measures.”

22 of the confirmed cases to date are in Incline Village with 3 active ones, and one recovered case in Crystal Bay.

Placer County

There have been 28 new cases of confirmed COVID-19 in Placer County since Wednesday, with none of them from the Lake Tahoe area.
