Teens arrested after allegedly attacking man on South Lake Tahoe beach

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two 14-year-old boys from South Lake Tahoe were arrested on Tuesday on several charges after attacking a man on the beach after a barrage of offensive words yelled at people on the beach.

At 4:25 p.m. on June 16, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) were called to what is known as the Timber Cove Marina and Beach on a report of an assault.

According to SLTPD, a group of four juveniles, ages 12-16 were on the beach verbally accosting people with offensive racial slurs and bad language. A 24-year-old man from South Lake Tahoe went to the group to tell them to knock off their nonsense and that it wasn't the best time or place to use those words.

The group of juveniles followed the man to the parking lot and proceeded to spit in his face and either punched or kicked him in the head.

SLTPD arrested the two they found responsible, both juveniles who they are familiar with and both who were currently on probation. They said the juveniles admitted to the assault.

Both 14-year-olds are charged with using offensive words in public/words likely to incite, battery, and obstruction/resisting a peace officer. One of the boys was also charged with carrying a billy club. They are currently housed in the El Dorado County Juvenile Treatment Center in South Lake Tahoe and their probations have been revoked.

The juveniles and victim involved in this case are Caucasian.

The victim had no serious injuries and went to the hospital to be treated for a mild concussion and contusions.

The victim was told there is a video of the incident and the SLTPD would like to see it. He was told that he may have been hit with a skateboard but does not remember more than the spitting and kicking.

If anyone has access to that video or more information, please contact Sgt. Jason Cheney at 530.541.6100 or by email at jcheney@cityofslt.us.
