Community weighs in on future design of Regan Beach

Regan Beach in South Lake Tahoe has run down restrooms, failing retaining walls and is not ADA compliant in many spots. Improvements at the park and beach are part of the recently completed Parks and Recreation Master Plan, and the City wants to know what the community would like to see here.

Over two dozen people were at Tuesday's meeting to give their opinions about the proposed improvements. After hearing the presentation by Design Workshop's Steve Noll, the participants split into small groups to discuss the possibilities at the City owned Regan Beach which covers 6.2 acres and has 2,000 feet of shoreline frontage.

Some of the "wants" received in previous community meetings on the project include improvements on the dog beach, viewing deck, playground, retaining wall and lake access. The expressed a desire for new bathrooms, enforced rules, more BBQs, a meeting area, more seating and shade, a water feature and more.

Some of the "undesired uses" expressed include dogs, wedding and rental space, camping, lockers, kayaks, and exercise classes.

For those that didn't attend the meeting at the South Lake Tahoe Parks & Recreation Center, the public is invited to give their opinion for the future of the park. An online survey is available, click here.
