Put on your ruby slippers and come to the Emerald City Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27 as the Sierra Tahoe Children’s Theater presents “The Wizard of Oz.” The production will be held at the TADA Viking Theater at South Tahoe High School.
The stars of the play will be children between the ages of 5 and 14 who have been participating in the two week musical theater workshop, Sierra Tahoe Children’s Theater.
This year’s workshop was attended by over 80 children who were divided into two casts for 4 performances.
One of the casts, nicknamed the Emerald City Cast, includes Lily Demus as Dorothy, Morrison Salmon as the Scarecrow, Derek Bushrow as the Tin Man, Dean Kallas as the Lion and Grace Baker as the Wizard, joined by a cast of adorable munchkins. That cast will be performing in the 2 p.m. show on Friday, June 26 and the 6 p.m. show on Saturday.
The other cast has been designated the “Ruby Slippers.” This cast includes Maddie Evans as Dorothy, Kayla Mason as the Scarecrow, Dayna Genna as the Tin Man, Lily Perez as the Lion and Zoe Brosch as the Wizard, joined by their own crew of munchkins performing in the 6 p.m. Friday, June 26 show and the Saturday 2 p.m. show.
An advanced dance chorus, Winkies, Guards, Ozians, Crows and Tress appear in all 4 shows.
“The Wizard of Oz” is a special young performers edition presented under special arrangement from Tams Witmark and includes all the favorite songs from the movie and the “Jitterbug” song and dance from the stage production.
Sierra Tahoe Children’s Theater has been under the direction of Nannette Niven and Marcia Sarosik for the last 10 years. Both are dedicated to offering excellence in theater and performing arts education to children in the community.
Tickets are $5 for adults and children are free. Tickets will be on sale 30 minutes prior to each performance.
