Carson Valley flooding update

Douglas County Emergency Management is currently working on managing the current flooding in the Stephanie and Johnson Lane areas of Douglas County.

The State Damage Assessment Teams went out to the affected areas on Thursday to determine the amount of damage to public infrastructure as well as attempting to determine private property damage following state and FEMA damage assessment criteria. The County hopes to have this report completed as soon as possible.

They are still collecting information on damage throughout the County. A public Douglas County flash flood hotline (775)782-6262 and email address has been established at douglasflood2015@gmail.com. Residents can use these contacts to report damages for the state assessment. Please leave a detailed message with your name, contact information and address for future damage assessment.

There was some setback on July 9 as a second flash flood hit the same areas previously affected. The County had over 100 personnel working the incident, including three Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) Fire Hand Crews. The County filled and assisted with the deployment of over 3,000 sand bags.

The Road Crews are working throughout the day Friday to assist in the continued clean-up efforts. Drainage and flow lines are being cleaned and cleared from the upper areas of Johnson and Stephanie Lanes, working downward, following the flow pattern priorities. We expect these efforts will assist with any additional flood waters that may be experienced over the next few days.

The County is scheduling the NDF crews for the same type of work next week, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

We continue to dedicate our efforts towards:
• Preparing for additional flooding pending variable weather data
• Restore sand and sandbag inventories
• Develop contingency plans for flooding potential in other areas
• Making Roadways Accessible to the public
• Clearing and maintenance of drainage facilities

If you have significant flood damage on your street please call Public Works
(775)783-6480 and they will respond to your inquiry in order of severity.
