Shakespeare at Lake Tahoe's Sand Harbor entertains with two plays

LAKE TAHOE - The summer of 2017 is the 45th anniversary of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival at Sand Harbor. If you have never been, this should be the year. Sit in the sand and enjoy not only great productions on the Warren Edward Trepp Stage at water's edge, but also an eclectic food and beverage area (or bring your own).

Two shows will be on the stage, alternating nights, Tuesday-Sunday through August 27.

Love's Labour's Lost, Shakespeare’s Labor of Love & Laughter: When a King decrees that his court be free of women so that he and his men may study without distraction, what could possibly go wrong? Nothing, until a beautiful princess and her delectable entourage pay a visit and put the men’s resolve to the ultimate test. Love letters gone awry set in motion a series of hysterical misadventures which turns the court topsy-turvy in a hilarious Shakespearean study of “Wooing 101.”

The Hound of the Baskervilles - A Hilarious Sherlock Holmes Whodunit: When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on his estate with terror etched on his face and the paw prints of a gigantic hound beside his body, the great detective Sherlock Holmes is summoned. This mystery classic is performed by three actors creating dozens of characters in what can only be described as a “tour de farce”! Packed with verbal and visual ingenuity, sleight of hand and a whirlwind of quick-changing characters – this suspenseful theatrical adventure delivers delightfully.

Young Shakespeare
Each year the D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program presents an interactive, one-hour adaptation of an LTSF mainstage production that is created with the young audience member in mind at Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park. We also share the production with other venues throughout the Reno/Sparks, Minden and Tahoe/Truckee region.

This FREE program (suggested donation $5 per adult; $1 per child) affords an amazing live theater experience for young audience members and their families while simultaneously providing opportunities for young and aspiring actors from regional middle and high schools to participate in the production as performers!

Since its inception, Young Shakespeare performances have connected over 60,000 children to the classics – thanks to generous support from LTSF Chair Emeritus, and Young Shakespeare namesake, Geno Menchetti.

They will be in South Lake Tahoe on August 4 at Valhalla. For all Young Shakespeare information, visit laketahoeshakespeare.com/young_shakespeare/.
