Strong early voting in El Dorado County

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - El Dorado County voters have historically been a mail-in ballot voter, with about 80 percent of those registered putting their ballot in the mail.

So far, over 34,000 ballots have been received by the El Dorado County Elections Office and tabulated. This is about 35 percent of the 124,353 registered and eligible to cast their vote in this primary election.

Bike challenge week riders pedal 11,215 miles and save $2,493 in gas purchases

During the first two weeks of June, participants in the 13th annual Lake Tahoe Bike Challenge traveled 11,215 miles on foot or on bicycle, burning an estimated 482,245 calories and preventing an estimated 12,105 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions and $2,493 in gasoline purchases.

Organized by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition, the basin-wide Bike Challenge is a friendly competition to see what individuals and teams can rack up the most trips and miles by biking, walking, or taking transit instead of driving cars.

Carson City arrest nets 5 pounds of meth and half pound of heroin

Two people face drug trafficking and transportation charges after deputies recovered more than 5 pounds of methamphetamine and around a half pound of heroin during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Arrested were Kimberly Ann Lopes, 36, and Danny Lyle Jensen II, 38, both of Las Vegas. Each face two level 3 charges of trafficking controlled substances, 1 count each of transportation of controlled substances, and 1 count each of possession of controlled substances for sales.

Shakespeare at Lake Tahoe's Sand Harbor entertains with two plays

LAKE TAHOE - The summer of 2017 is the 45th anniversary of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival at Sand Harbor. If you have never been, this should be the year. Sit in the sand and enjoy not only great productions on the Warren Edward Trepp Stage at water's edge, but also an eclectic food and beverage area (or bring your own).

Two shows will be on the stage, alternating nights, Tuesday-Sunday through August 27.

Plein Air painter holds reception Friday at Bona Fide Books in Meyers

Bona Fide Books in Meyers will celebrate "Have Paints, Will Travel" on Friday night. Plein Air painer Ginny Schakerman's art will be on display during the reception which will include music and libations from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. March 6.

The reception is a kick off to Bona Fide's new community mercantile and print shop. Owner Kim Wyatt has been offering class at the store, from book making to prints.

Schakerman's art will be on display all month at the Meyer's book store.

With colorful and playful illustrations the book tells the story of Lambe, a lonely little sugar pine seedling who grows up to be a very happy tree. Follow Lambe as he grows from ‘a little seed in a big pinecone’ into the biggest sugar pine in all the forest. Meet all of his animal friends along the way.

28 th Annual Humane Society Santa Paws pet photo day this Saturday

Bring your pets and family to the Tahoe Production House on Saturday to get your holiday group photo taken with Santa Paws, Tahoe's exclusive Santa dog.

The Lake Tahoe Humane Society holds this annual event as a fundraiser for local pets in need.

There will be a raffle, pet gifts and the 2014 Tahoe Pets Calendar for sale, refreshments and a Cat and Dog Dry Food for Pet Bank.

The cost is $20 and includes a 5 x 7 photo will professional photographer, Jen Schmidt. Bows and antlers will be provided to help create the memorable photos. Digital prints on a CD are also available.

Lake Tahoe Chocolate Shop opened a new retail store inside MontBleu Resort, Casino and Spa over Memorial Day Weekend. The retail store sells all of Lake Tahoe Chocolate Shop’s popular hand-crafted chocolates such as its signature Dark Chocolate Dipped Bacon from Overland Meat Co.

Wine Tasting and Art Auction feature Thomas Kinkade Prints

The El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce Education Council will hold its annual Wine Tasting/Art Auction on Friday, May 4, 2012, at 6 p.m. where ten Thomas Kinkade framed prints, along with artwork from other area artists, will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
David Girard Vineyard will be the site where the Wine Tasting/Art Auction will take place, and the Wine Tasting will feature fine David Girard Vineyard wines.

Haldan Art Gallery welcomes Great Basin Exteriors: A Photographic Survey
