Officials searching for the body of missing paddle boarder Marc Ma have just recovered a body in Lake Tahoe, tentatively believed to be the 20-year-old presumed drowned last summer.

Ma, who was a football player at the University of Reno, Nevada (UNR), was paddle boarding with teammates on June 10, 2016 The group found themselves in trouble about 1.7 miles offshore, as high winds caused 3- to 5-foot swells. Everyone else in the group had been washed off their boards. Marc headed back to shore to get help.

The friends were rescued by a boat crew from a nearby marina, but Ma was never seen again. He was not wearing a personal flotation device.

Ma's family hired a private contractor, "Bruce's Legacy," to search for his body and they headed to Lake Tahoe this past weekend with a a specialized robotic camera system.

At 1:05 p.m. Monday, July 31, the camera spotted a body in 240-feet of water. The body was recovered close to the West Shore Cafe area where he was last seen. The body, believed to be Ma, was brought to shore with assistance from the Placer County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Placer County Sheriff's Department will release more information once identification has been completed.
