Overnight roadwork to affect travelers on U.S. 395 south of Carson City

The Nevada Department of Transportation will begin overnight work to apply a top sealant coating to U.S. 395 between south Carson City and Gardnerville.

Overnight single lane closures will take place on U.S. 395 between the U.S. 50 junction in south Carson City and Mono Avenue in Gardnerville Monday, Aug. 10 through Thursday, Aug. 14, as well as Monday, Aug. 17. All work will take place between approximately 6 p.m. and 4:30 a.m., with single lane closures and reduced work zone speed limits. A single lane will continually be open in each direction during the overnight roadwork. All lanes will remain open during daytime hours. Motorists are advised to drive at posted construction speed limits, or slower as necessary for conditions.

The flush seal being applied to U.S. 395 consists of a top layer of oil to help reseal and rejuvenate the asphalt for longer roadway life. The work is part of NDOT’s proactive pavement preservation program through which state roadway surfaces are preserved and resurfaced before reaching time for more extensive and costly repairs. In part due to this program, Nevada roads are routinely ranked some of the smoothest in the nation.

SAFE WORK ZONE DRIVING TIPS

∙ Pay attention. Normal speed limits may be reduced, traffic lanes may be changed and people and vehicles may be working near the road.
∙ Always slow to posted work zone speed limits.
∙ Continue to pay attention to work zone signs, even in areas of long-term road work.
