Community raises over $1,000 for SOS Outreach at Tahoe Chamber event

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A recent Tahoe Chamber Connect for a Cause raised funds for SOS Outreach, a youth development non-profit that uses year-round, outdoor sports to engage underserved students in long-term mentor based relationships.

They gathered with community members at Revive Coffee & Wine and enjoyed appetizers, local beer and wine, raffle prizes, and live music from Bond Collins while raising $1,050 for SOS Outreach.

“SOS gives local youth the opportunity to experience the incredible recreational activities that Tahoe has to offer, said Emily Abernathy, Tahoe Chamber Director of Operations. “These kids may not have the resources to get out there on their own and SOS gives them that chance. As a mentor for the program myself I have seen firsthand how SOS changes the lives of children for the better and it was an honor to be able to give back to the program through our Chamber Mixer.”

SOS Outreach's mission is to create a culture of community and empowerment through outdoor programs where kids can discover their enthusiasm for life and learn the skills they need to live it to the fullest and carve their own path. Teresa Papandrea, Senior Regional Director for SOS Outreach, explained that this donation will help the organization significantly as they move into their busy winter program.

They serve about 5,000 youth between the ages of 8 and 18 annually around Lake Tahoe.
