Survey being conducted to see if better, faster internet needed in Lake Tahoe

The Tahoe Prosperity Center (TPC) wants to facilitate the expansion of high speed internet in the Lake Tahoe Basin, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. In order to see where the need is, a speed test of your current internet service and a survey is being conducted.

With the gathered information, TPC will be able to see where the gaps in high speed internet service are and determine where broadband upgrades or expansions are needed. Everyone living, working or visiting the Lake Tahoe Basin are encouraged to take the test and survey while here. All people participating will be entered into a contest to win an iPad mini.

“Access to high speed internet is the foundation for economic prosperity, educational excellence and healthy, safe communities Basin-wide”, states Bev Ducey, Connected Tahoe program manager. “Data from this survey will be used to recruit Internet Service Providers to expand into our underserved areas and to assist them in writing grants to help fund their capital costs”.

The speed test is available until the end of October.
