Chance of thunderstorms and showers in the Lake Tahoe forecast

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The region will see above average temperatures with afternoon breezes continue through Labor Day. Thunderstorm chances return beginning Monday and lasting through Thursday with the most widespread storms on Wednesday. Temperatures will gradually cool stating Wednesday but will remain above normal, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

The storms will be most numerous near and east of Highway 395.

Next weekend remains uncertain, but confidence has increased somewhat that another upper low will approach the coast.

The forecast from the National Weather Service in Reno:

Labor Day - Sunny, with a high near 85. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Monday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 48. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tuesday - A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Sunny, with a high near 84. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 51. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday - A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.

Wednesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 48.

Thursday- Sunny, with a high near 79.

Thursday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 46.

Friday - Sunny, with a high near 80.

Friday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 45.

Saturday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.

Saturday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 44.

Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 74.
