Heat advisory in effect all weekend for Lake Tahoe communities

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It is going to be a hot one in Lake Tahoe over the Labor Day Weekend as well as in Western Nevada and Northern California.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Heat Advisory from 11:00 a.m. Friday to 8:00 p.m. Sundayfor Lake Tahoe due to consecutive days of high temperature. The forecast highs are 90-93 degrees those three days and record high temperatures are likely this holiday weekend.

Not only will there be high temperatures, there will also be widespread haze due to Northern California fires.

The heat advisory is for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area and Mono County including the cities of South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City, Truckee, Markleeville, Bridgeport, Coleville, Lee Vining, Mammoth Lakes, Stateline, Glenbrook, and Incline Village.

IMPACTS...Hot temperatures during the daytime could result in heat health impacts especially to vulnerable populations and to those outdoors for extended periods of time. Since this is a holiday weekend, many people will be outdoors recreating, and that could increase risk of heat illness incidents. Smoke and haze could also exacerbate the heat health impacts.

ADDITIONAL INFO...Many people in mountain communities do not have air onditioning, which can increase heat impacts even at lower temperatures. Take advantage of the cool mornings in the 40s to low 50s to cool your house.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Consider indoor or early morning "Plan B" alternative activities this coming weekend. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room when possible, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
