Barton’s Medical Imaging Earns ACR Accreditation and Gold Seal of Approval

The Medical Imaging Department at Barton Health has been awarded a three year term of accreditation by the American College of Radiology as well as the Gold Seal.

“Our radiology staff and facilities have endured a rigorous review process to confirm our medical excellence,” says Tom Davis, Barton’s director of Medical Imaging. “We are very fortunate to have a team of radiologists and staff who are both state and nationally certified and among the most elite in their field.”

Barton has earned ACR’s accreditation and gold seal in computed tomography (CT). CT scanning, sometimes called a CAT scan, is a noninvasive medical test that uses special x-ray equipment to obtain many images from different angles around the body. The result shows several types of tissue, including lung, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels, with great clarity. This method helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions.

The gold seal of accreditation is the highest level of image quality and patient safety. To receive accreditation and a gold seal of approval, the Medical Imaging department voluntarily endures a vigorous evaluation. It must meet ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards and undergo a thorough peer review by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.

“When you come into our medical imaging office and see the gold seal of accreditation displayed, you can be assured our facility has met the highest standard for imaging, quality, and patient safety.” Davis adds.

The ACR is a national professional organization that serves more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists.
