Smoke in basin from the Happy Camp Fire; Yosemite Fire has burned 4,400 acres

Many thought the smoke filling the Lake Tahoe basin on Tuesday was from Yosemite's Meadow Fire, but because of the way winds were flowing the basin smoke was actually from the Happy Fire in Northern California.

As of 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Happy Fire had burned over 105,000 acres and is 30% contained. The lightning caused fire started on August 12 and is burning west of Yreka and I-5 along Hwy 96 in the Klamath National Forest.

Yosemite's Meadow Fire has burned 4,400 acres and is 5% contained. The Fire is located within the designated wilderness of the Yosemite National Park in Mariposa County and is currently within Little Yosemite Valley between Half Dome and Mount Starr King on both sides of the Merced River.

The fire has caused the following closures:

Little Yosemite Valley
The John Muir Trail between Little Yosemite Valley and Long Meadow.
All routes on Half Dome including the Cables, NW Regular Route, and Snake Dike.
Sunrise and Merced Lake High Sierra Camps and backpackers' camps.
The Sunrise Trail south of the Tenaya Lake Trail junction.
Clouds Rest, Sunrise Lakes, Emeric Lake, and Babcock Lake.
