Fireman and Police Detective wed in South Lake Tahoe on 9/11

The cameras were running in New York City on September 11, 2001 as two airplanes hit the twin towers of the World Trade Center, forever changing the lives of Americans. First responders lost their lives as they rushed to the scene of the disaster to help the injured, marking the day as a day of remembrance for firefighters and police officers.

Two first responders chose 9/11 to be married in South Lake Tahoe in a ceremony that united a Suisun City Police Detective with a Pennisula Fireman.

"This has always been a bad day in our history," said wedding officiant, and firefighter, David Carr. "Today we have this as a good day."

Carr united Detective Lisa Evenson with Fireman Sean Carlock during a ceremony in the Grand Hall at Valhalla Friday evening. Fellow first responders were there to help them celebrate their marriage.

Decorations at Valhalla included gear from their jobs, from a fire jacket to a helmet. The figurine at the top of the wedding cake even included a policewoman and a fireman.

The romantic story began as Lisa was held overtime to handle some drunks on the streets of Suisun City. Had she gone home on time she wouldn't have met fireman Sean who was on duty that night.

He has since moved to being a fireman at Lake Almanor, a 2 1/2 hour drive from Lisa's job.

Lake Front Wedding & Events of South Lake Tahoe helped plan the couple's 9/11 wedding. There wasn't a dry eye in the room as funny, thoughtful and serious words were said during the ceremony.

Lisa and Sean are taking a quick trip to San Diego and have to put honeymoon plans on hold until an Alaskan cruise next year since Lisa has to testify at an upcoming murder trial.
