El Dorado County Supervisor District 5 candidate forum

Hear what the two candidates for El Dorado County District 5 Supervisor have to say during the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce (Tahoe Chamber) Candidates Forum on Thursday, Sept. 20 from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Tahoe Beach Retreat in South Lake Tahoe.

Incumbent Sue Novasel and challenger Kenny Curtzwiler will provide opening and closing remarks, as well as answers to moderator and community questions at this public event. The Tahoe Chamber requests community questions be emailed to info@tahoechamber.org by Sept. 19. Attendees will also have the opportunity to present written questions during the forum.

The El Dorado County District 5 supervisor represents constituents from Pollock Pines and Tahoma to South Lake Tahoe. The District 5 Supervisor serves alongside four other county supervisors in El Dorado County, each with a four-year term. The supervisors develop policy and make decisions on a full range of County issues, from vacation rentals, to the county budget to public works, law enforcement and social services.

El Dorado County residents are encouraged to attend this free event prior to the November election to best determine which candidate will be their choice for the District 5 Supervisor seat. The deadline to register to vote in the 2018 election is 11:59 p.m. PT, Oct. 22. Register to vote in California at registertovote.ca.gov.

Incumbent Sue Novasel has served as the El Dorado County District 5 Supervisor since 2015. Previously she served 11 years as a school board trustee for Lake Tahoe Unified School District. She currently represents the County on boards for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, California Tahoe Conservancy, Tahoe Transportation District, El Dorado Water & Power Agency and the South Lake Tahoe Solid Waste Joint Powers Authority. Kenny Curtzwiler, a local contractor and retired from the military, has been a South Lake Tahoe local for over 40 years and is known as “Tahoe Ski Bum” throughout the community. Curtzwiler lost to Novasel in the 2014 election and is vying for the seat again this year. Novasel led the June 2018 primary election with 1,604 votes and Curtzwiler finished second with 1,419 votes.
