Applications for open Lake Tahoe Unified School Board seat due Friday

As of Tuesday's Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Board meeting, no applications for the open seat on the board had been completed and filed, though two are expected according to Shannon Chandler, Dr. Jim Tarwater's Executive Assistant.

The seat opened up when Ginger Nicolay-Davis, the Board Member from Trustee Area 2, had to leave the board when she was hired by LTUSD as a speech pathologist.

Interested applicants must reside in Trustee Area 2, which shown in the picture covers the area from Pine Grove Avenue to Al Tahoe Blvd., Pioneer Trail to Highway 50. South Tahoe Middle School and Bijou Elementary are both located in this area.

In the November 8 election, three seats are open with a total of five candidates.

Trustee Area #1: Annie Davidson, Independent Education Consultant; and Larry Reilly, Retired Teacher are the candidate for the seat currently held by Adam Jones who decided not to run.

Trustee Area #3: Dr. Michael Doyle, Incumbent who was elected in 2007 and has served two terms and Bonnie Turnbull, Educator are the two candidates.

roy Matthews, Local Non-Profit Leader, qualified for candidacy in Trustee Area #4. Due to receiving an insufficient number of filings in this trustee area, Mr. Matthews will run unopposed, automatically taking this seat in December, 2016, which is currently held by Dr. Larry Green.
