Two newest South Lake Tahoe police officers excel at academy

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) has two new members - Christopher Cable and Charles Roesch. Both men were sworn in during a ceremony Tuesday, September 17.

Before their swearing in, both Cable and Roesch graduated from the six-month long Napa Police Academy on Saturday. At graduation both were honored for their grades and skills and ended up as the top two in their class.

Chris moves over to SLTPD from his old job as a Community Services Officer. He held that job from January 2018 until April 2019. He moved to South Lake Tahoe in 2015 from North Carolina and worked as a security guard at Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort before starting with the City.

At the academy Officer Cable was selected by his classmates to be president of their class, was the class sergeant and during graduation was awarded the lifetime fitness performance award and the learning ability award as it pertains to academic testing. He was top of his class according to SLTPD Chief Brian Uhler.

Chuck comes to SLTPD most recently from Truckee, California, where he was a ski lift mechanic at Squaw Valley for three years. Originally from Hartford Connecticut, he served in the US Army from 2005 until 2009. He moved to the Tahoe area in 2011.

He was the class valedictorian after excelling at every type of class from day one, and won awards in problem solving and physical ability (emergency vehicle operations, weaponless defense, and fire arms). He ended up as number two in his class after Cable, said Uhler who also said the academy coordinator pulled him aside after graduation to tell him how well the men did.

"We are very proud as an agency to have the two cadets we selected to the regional academy bestowed with these honors," said Uhler. "This reflects well on this organization."

Both men are new to policing and were hired as cadets as SLTPD put them through the academy.

"We believe they'll be serving this community for a long time," said Uhler.
